Whereas the dangerous and human-rights abusing regime of Tehran has just convened a conference questioning the existence of the Holocaust, the latest in a series of ongoing deliberate attempts to delegitimize the Jewish people

Whereas this Iranian government-sponsored conference will reportedly bring together a veritable who’s who of known Holocaust deniers and hate mongers, amongst them Robert Faurisson, a French professor who denies the existence of gas chambers, German-born Australian Frederick Toeben, an individual who has served a jail sentence in Germany on charges of inciting racial hatred, and David Duke, a former Ku Klux Klan leader in the United States

Whereas the sole purpose of this conference is to incite hatred against the Jewish people by claiming that the Holocaust is a ‘hoax’, attempting to portray the Jewish people as greedy in seeking ‘false’ reparations and depicting support for Israel as illegitimate

Whereas this latest Iranian show of Holocaust denial and all other similar such attempts must be recognized for what they are – modern-day dressing for traditional antisemitism

Whereas Iran continues to be a state sponsor of terrorism, including directing and funding the terrorist Hezbollah organization in Lebanon

Whereas Iran continues to plot with Syria for the destruction of the Jewish State of Israel

Whereas Iran is intent on continuing to flagrantly challenge the international community with its continued build-up of nuclear arms

Whereas Iran stands as one of the most oppressive regimes world-wide, denying its citizens basic fundamental rights and freedoms, including the right to freedom of religion

Whereas Iran poses a clear and present danger to Israel and to all countries world wide who value democracy and freedom

Be it therefore resolved that B’nai Brith Canada intensify its efforts to counter Iranian Holocaust denial, an example of modern day antisemitism, through Holocaust remembrance programs and educational outreach

Be it further resolved that B’nai Brith work through its Institute for International Affairs to outreach to all at risk communities in Iran and throughout the Middle East and their diaspora counterparts whose voices are silenced by autocratic rulers who seek to persecute and oppress them

Be it further resolved that B’nai Brith remain steadfast in its course to shine a spotlight on human rights abusers such as Iran and to urge Canada to play a leading role in encouraging the international community to take up this important challenge.
