Despite its numerous calls for Israel's destruction, and repeated
denials of the Holocaust, Iran has been selected by the United Nations
for a leading position in a committee that will plan the 2009 UN World
Conference against Racism. "Iran is now poised to wrap itself in a UN flag as a lead agent of the
next global conference against racism, Durban II," she added, referring
to the 2001 UN conference on racism held in Durban, South Africa, which
saw unprecedented levels of anti-Zionist rhetoric and calls for
Israel's destruction.

The Russian version of Palestine-info carries a large number of anti-Semitic (and anti-Western) cartoons which do not appear on the portal's other language sites. The Intelligence and Terrorism Information Center attributes this to Hamas' propaganda policy which calculates that Russian-speaking target audiences are ripe for anti-Semitic and anti-Western propaganda. It also stems from the expectation that such cartoons can promote the absorption and assimilation of other Hamas' messages of radical Islam, support for terrorism, hostility toward the United States.

East, telling the country's top diplomat at a high-level conference
Saturday that it must stay out of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and
be more open about its nuclear ambitions. Saudi Prince Turki al-Faisal scolded Iran, saying that the
predominantly Persian country had little to do with Israeli-Palestinian
peacemaking. It's an Arab issue and should be resolved within the Arab
fold."

The United Nations Security Council acted unanimously today to tighten

countries contend are driven by military ambitions.

The widespread persecution of Iranians for their ethnicity, religion, political beliefs, and gender and sexual orientation is documented in a new American Jewish Committee (AJC) study, Human Rights in Iran, 2007. Iranian government-controlled judiciary, as well as extra-constitutional courts, such as the Revolutionary Courts and the Special Courts for the Clergy, target specific groups rejected by Tehran's ruling elite. These legal bodies flout both international and Iranian law, often issuing summary decisions at closed trials that lack due process.
